Lee DODD who had operated a grocery in the east part of town for a number of years was killed by a train at the Monon crossing near the Hillis & Oliver Machine Shop at 5 o'clock on Friday evening. His body was cut to pieces when it fell beneath the wheels of the train. Funeral services are held at ? Gottschall funeral home on Monday afternoon at 3 oclock.

Lee Dodd, 69, local grocer was instantly killed Friday evening when his car was struck by a Monon train at the crossing by the Hillis & Oliver Machine Shop. The car stalled on the track and was hit by a northbound freight train. Mr. Dodd was carried in his car, a 1935 Chevrolet coupe to the Monon Depot where he was thrown from the car and under the wheels of the locomotive. He was completely crushed by the locomotive.
The train was unable to stop for another two blocks and carried the car, completely destroyed, attached to its cow-cather. The accident occurred about 6:15 o'clock as Mr. Dodd was driving from the business part of Ladoga to a small neighborhood grocery which he operated in the east part of town.
Lee Dodd was born south of Ladoga, Jan 14, 1876, the son of Caleb and Lordina Dodd. He was married Sept 12, 1900 to Lottie Long also of Ladoga and they resided their entire married life in this community. Mr. Dodd had also been a farmer and a hardware dealer for many years before he operated his grocery store.
Four brothers, two nieces and one nephew survive in addition to his wife. They are Carl Dodd of Ladoga; Harry Dodd and Edward Dodd both of Chicago and Walter Dodd of White Hall, Michigan, all brothers; Richard Mann of Miami, Florida, nephew and Mrs. Juanita Dowery and Mrs. Ernest Everhart of Indianapolis, nieces.
Mr. Dodd had the distinction of owning the first automobile in Ladoga and at the time he represented the Auburn Motor Car Company. He was also interested in race horses in his early life having owned many fine horses. He was active in civic and political life of the community.
Funeral services for Mr. Dodd were held Monday Jan 29 at 3:00 o'clock at Gottschall Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil M. Wyant, pastor of the Ladoga Methodist Church in charge.
Mrs. Lulu Bryant and Mrs. Hope Wyant, accompanied by Mrs. Daisy Cline sang two duets: The Old RUgged Cross and Sometime We'll Understand. Pallbearers were Carl, Harry, Walter and Edward Dodd, Harold Donnery and Harry McCalister....
